Dating question — Should this bother me?

October 16th, 2009 | Posted in Tournament Play   2 Comments

I’m dating a professional single dad in his early 40s. Every now and then, he plays poker (for money) with his friends. Once a year they have a poker tournament at which about 40 people attend. I’m not sure how often he plays or what it really involves. Any reason to be alarmed? How can I ask more questions with seeming like I’m alarmed?

Online Poker Helps Broaden Interest In The Game

October 11th, 2009 | Posted in Online Poker   Add Comment
Online poker has become one of the most popular games played on the Internet today. With the increase of the number of people who are signing up and logging on, comes an even broader interest in the game. Whether you are a novice player wishing to learn more about the game, thereby, gaining experience through online rooms and opinions and advice of other players, or a seasoned player wishing to improve your game and gain perspective on your strategy, your options are almost limitless when playing over the World Wide Web.

Along with growing prizes at mainland tournaments, and increasing television coverage devoted to these tournaments, online poker rooms are now fueling more interest in the game as a whole.

As the popularity of poker increases, the number of online rooms increases as well.

Online poker rooms provide secure payment methods, a feature that is important when conducting any business online, random card dealing, a safe playing environment, and a realistic gaming experience.

They also provide a large number of people to get to know online, discuss opinions and strategies, and the opportunity for more players to take part in games from across the world without having to meet in one place.

Some online rooms are more detailed than others, but most feature very vivid graphics, thrilling promotional opportunities, and extremely generous bonuses.

Many available online poker rooms offer a great deal of options that will help enhance your gaming experience. One of these options is software available for download in multiple languages, again, broadening the opportunities for players from across the globe to join in the game. Other options offered by some of the online poker rooms include free rolls, referral bonuses, and traditional loyalty with new account bonus offers.

Many of the features offered for online gaming make playing over the Internet more appealing, and can also help to expand the user volume of the site.

Also, another feature offered by many online sites is a variety of available games. This allows players to choose which poker variant they would like to play, and allows them to switch from one to another if they so desire.

Many of the rooms that are long running also have a faithful player base. This helps establish the credibility of the site, and can help to encourage players to go there to play. Add to that the knowledge of such a faithful player base, and these rooms can rank among the more highly recommended ones to visit.

Also, because the World Wide Web is so world wide, players have more options available and more rooms from which to choose. It is also possible to play with people from different parts of the world, and learn how different variants are played in various parts of the globe.

What Attracts People To Online Poker?

October 8th, 2009 | Posted in Online Poker   Add Comment
Do a search for “poker” on the web and the number of casinos that come up is unbelievable. Casinos online compete with each other to provide the best games, including several variations of the poker game, keeping in mind the huge popularity of online Poker.

Online poker is a total contrast to poker played at the brick-and-mortar casinos.

What makes thousands of poker players play at these online casinos?

There are several advantages to playing poker online. For one thing, players can sit at home in their pajamas and play at any time of the day or night. They can wear what they want, eat, drink and do anything, and not bother about “casino etiquette”. They can save on tipping too.

People who have played poker at offline casinos would know how slow the action actually is, waiting for the opponents to place their bets, observing the betting patterns and reading the opponents. There may also be times a player goes a few orbits without a real hand. Online poker is a breeze in comparison. It can be played very fast, depending solely on the time taken by the player for placing the bets.

Multi-tabling is another benefit that online poker offers. The ability to play at various tables or even different poker rooms at the same time makes online poker extremely attractive.

Even people who are not familiar with the game can begin playing online by going through the guidelines given in the casinos. They can even check out the game with the free poker games offered by almost all the online casinos, which can be played for “free money” provided by the casinos and not real money.

The tremendous growth of online poker has also been attributed to the fact that many top online casinos offer tournaments called “satellites”, which are extremely popular. In these tournaments, online players can get entry into an online or even an offline poker tournament.

Several players, who gained entry into poker tournaments through such satellites, went on to earn the WSOP seats. This brings to light the power and influence online casinos have on people.

The only thing that may prove to be a disadvantage, if you call it that, is that the winnings cannot be cashed out immediately and most online casinos take a couple of days to process the earnings, as well as there being restrictions on the number of cash-outs per month.

Online poker has made a mark for itself and the convenience of playing online cannot be underestimated, with the surge of poker traffic to the online casinos increasing every day.

Do You Want To Play Online Poker?

October 6th, 2009 | Posted in Online Poker   Add Comment
Are you of legal age to gamble already? Have some money to spare? And more importantly, do you find yourself excited or at the very least, curious, about playing online poker? If so, then you’ve come to the right place. A lot of people who are new to the online poker scene feel somewhat intimidated and helpless when it comes to playing online poker for the first time.

And at times, their nerves get the better of them. So instead of forging ahead and playing online poker, they back out and simply try to feel content with just watching Celebrity Poker on television or other professional poker tournaments. If you’re new to the online poker scene and would like a crash course about it then wait no more because we’re about to give it to you in three..two..

ONE game is all it takes to get you hooked because poker is truly an amazing game. First, it challenges your brains. Don’t believe people when they tell you that poker is an easy game to win. It’s not!

But it isn’t as difficult as solving as Rubic’s cube. When you play poker, whether you do so online or live, you’ll realize that your brain is challenged to come up with different scenarios for the two cards you’re holding with your hand. With those two cards, you should be able to do the following: determine whether it has a good chance of winning, determine your chances against the other players and determine whether it’s time to fold in the successive rounds.

Secondly, if you’re worried about the game getting dull when you’re waiting for other players to make a move by folding, calling or raising a bet, you need not worry. This is because online poker sites have foreseen this problem so they made sure they offer their members a lot of cool graphics and distractions if they need to while away the waiting time.

After gaining considerable experience in playing poker, you may be able to make a living out of online poker. I kid you not! Online poker is easier than playing live poker because it offers helpful statistics that will let you know which rooms have big pots and which ones are populated by inexperienced poker players whom you could – - take advantage of!

But like I said, to be able to reach this stage, you must first gain experience in playing online poker. Make sure, however, that you don’t overdo it by bankrupting yourself in the process.

Online Poker (No Limit Holdem) Question?

October 2nd, 2009 | Posted in Tournament Play   6 Comments

Okay, was drinking with a buddy last nite and started talking about online poker and had a question we couldn’t agree on.

I see some websites sell programs that supposedly allow you to see other players cards at a table. I guess first off is this possible or is everything to secure for this to happen. If it is possible could a normal person do it or would it take a Genius like Stever Erkle or Dougie Houser to do something like this? I have heard techincally the software does work, however you need to have everyone at the tables ip address which would be difficult to get.

Also, I guess this question is along those same lines but somewhat different. I was telling my buddy how I play in sit and go tournaments of like 10 people sometimes and he said it’s all a scam that friends sit at a table and play together and tell each other their cards to screw everyone else at the table. I’m sure some people do this but do you really think it’s that prevalent that you shouldn’t plya online?
You brought up an interesting point, I think if your not in a game you can sit at a table and watch a game and see players cards. You would think sites would be onto this but maybe not. I’m going to log onto bodog poker and see if I can sit at a table and just do that. I’ll report back whether you can see cards or not.
Okay, just checked, they do guard against that which is good. That would suck if people always knew your hand.
I saw someone commented the poker rooms would be out of business. THey are still making a rake on every game/hand so they are not going out of business. Anyone who has cheat programs are taking money from othe players not the poker room, they are making more money. I’ve also heard people claim the games sorta fixed by making sure people win a good percentage of the time so everyone kind of breaks even and they keep making their rake.

What are some good charities for White folks?

September 30th, 2009 | Posted in Tournament Play   16 Comments

I’m a professional poker player, and as you may know, many of us donate a significant portion of our winnings to charity (most notably Barry Greenstein). I have recently won a particularly large sum of money in a major tournament and would like to donate all the proceeds to a reputable charity.

I did a little searching on Yahoo!, but I’m not very good with computers and I couldn’t find anything. I’m just looking for a good White charity for students in need of college scholarships. I don’t want any of it going to the negros, I believe they have their own charity.

Thank you in advance.
