what percentile am I in?

hey, I’m in a free, online poker tournament, and am wondering what percentile I’m in. If I’m top 20%, I win some chips. I know I’m top 20%, but I’d like to know the exact percentile.
my rank is 9466 out of 244,695
please show me how it’s calcualted as I’d like to continue to calculate where I am as numbers change. Thanks!

Being in the top 20% percentile means that if you arrange the scores from highest to lowest, your score is somewhere in the first 20% of the list. Since 20% = 0.2, there are
244,695 * 0.2 = 48,993
scores which qualify for the 20% percentile.
To figure out your percentile from your rank you do,
total_number_of_scores * p = your_rank
244695 * p = 9466
p = 0.039 =
Which is the 4th percentile.
Now generally though percentiles are calculated as how far you are from the bottom rather than how close to the top,
so it would generally be called the 96th percentile.
