A Poker Question. Getting ready for 2008 WSOP?

Posted by admin

I play in a free league here in town and have done quite well. I’m one of the better players but would like to improve my game. I have already won a seat to their National Championship in vegas and one of the events in next years WSOP. They both are No Limit events.

What I’m looking for is advice on how to improve my game. I already read a new poker book about once a month as well as try to play more at the casino tournaments. I go at least once a month to their 100 person $35 dollar buy in. They pay out the top 10 and I have made it to the money 3 out of the last 5 times I played.

So is their anything more that I can do to try and get ready for the WSOP next year. It starts back up again in June. I have a little over 6 months to get ready.

Any and all help would be great.

Thanks.

Your going to have to get into a larger tourney with like 1,000 or more people and see if your top 10 material… See if you can really hold back from chasing that flush or open-ended straight. The big thing is when there is so many people in the tournament like the WSOP… You have to play smart poker no chasing just wait for your cards… Once you get in real deep… and your finally in the pay… (now you can do some bluffing) …
… I’d recommend you either go on to a poker site (www.pokerstars.com) and get into a tourney atleast 20 dollars buy in with like a 1,000 or more people… so you can actually get some practice…
… I also recommend you go to the casino and play bigger money like 2-5 or 5-10 cash games… Those games you will learn so much more… then the smaller 1-2 game… also it will make you not push your whole stack in … it will help you stay patient…

    Either way Good Luck!

Just practice practice practice. Try getting into a larger tournament. 100 players is nothing compared to the WSOP. Keep reading poker books. I wouldn’t recommend playing online because it is much different than playing at the table and might hurt your game. Other than that….I don’t know. But good luck to you!!! =]

Find out if there are any tournaments the simulate the WSOP event you are playing, blind structure, cash payouts to players, antes. Play in it.
