Wsop and Poker Tournaments

Thursday, May 28th, 2009
The World Series of Poker first started in 1970 at Binion’s Casino in Las Vegas and today is considered the most prestige’s poker tournament held any where in the world. In the last few years the field of players has been enormous in number and the prize money has been several million dollars to the winner of the tournament. They have been showing the poker tournaments on TV and the camera view of what each player is holding has helped to gain a huge TV audience. Three factors have attracted the large number of players to tournament poker. The many televised tournaments that are now shown on TV are one factor of the growth. Another factor is the many satellite tournaments where a player can pay a small entry fee and win the entry into the tournaments. The final factor is the popularity of Internet poker and the many tournaments that offered daily at these online poker casinos. This has allowed many young players to gain experience and they now make the final table at many tournaments that are shown on TV.

There is a significant difference between tournament poker and cash game poker. When you lose all of your chips in a cash game, you can buy more. In a tournament when your stack is gone, you are finished in that tournament. So the secret is to maintain your chip total and try to make the final table where the prize money is the highest. When the blinds are low, the player can take some flyers with suited connectors and lower pairs. When the blinds get really high, the better hands may not come and you need to be more aggressive or you will be blinded out of the tournament. It is difficult to wait for really solid starting hands in tournament play. Aggression is rewarded and the art of the bluff is a big part of the way the game is played. Calling significant raises in tournaments should be done only when you have a solid hand or have many outs that can give you a winning hand. Gambling early in the tournament on marginal hands is a sure way to get eliminated from the tournament. Of course if the cards are running over you, then you can play almost any two cards in Holdem. Generally low buy in tournament games which are held daily on internet websites are the best place to learn to play in tournament games.

I have lost around £30,000 on online poker in the last 4 years?

Sunday, May 24th, 2009

I am currently battling an addiction to online poker. I have lost approx 30k in the last 4 yrs. I am now in 20k in debt. I lost most of the cash in about 2 weeks. I played on a well known poker site and had a limit of £1000 in 24hrs. I lost this amount in about 1hr at 10/20 level. I called customer svs, as I was tilting badly and urging for more money. They lifted my £1000 24hr limit and changed it to unlimited immediately!. I then went on to lose another £3500 that night. I feel absolutely destroyed about everything that has went on in my life after being introduced to online poker but I felt that I was unprotected in this case. Is there any law against this or is this common practice for these sites to do this? Any info may help….

Find Top Online Poker Sites

Friday, May 22nd, 2009
Online poker can be a hobby that provides hours and hours of entertainment. It is a game that requires patience, wits, and guts. Playing against different players can help you build up your poker skills over time. However, many players tend to spend all their time on the games, and not enough time reflecting on their game play. What does that mean?

For example, a poker hobbyist may play for hours and hours each day without much improvement. This is because the strategy used is pretty much the same. Without reflection, the poker strategy becomes stale, and there is very little room for improvement. To avoid this problem, intelligent poker players spend a little time each day browsing poker related sites. They find out how other players think, and what they do during a game. In this way, they are able to think out of the box and outwit other poker players during a game.

So where to start learning more tips and strategies about poker?

Community sites.

Community sites support members with the same interest. These sites can be in the form of forums or social community sites such as Facebook. You will be able to start new discussions or join in existing discussions. In the process, you make new friends. And what do friends do?

Friends tend to share knowledge with one another. This is a great experience, and any poker player who is not involved in this process is missing out.

Joining a community site is simple. On most sites, registration is free. Simply create an account, and start participating. The key here is not to be stingy with your knowledge. Share, share and share! Over time, you find that other members tend to reciprocate and post great stuff for you as well. That is when you learn. Try this. After all, there is nothing to lose.

Poker information sites.

These are sites that provide general poker information such as tips and strategies. Sometimes, you may come across a great article that shares some exclusive strategies. Be sure to share them with your friends.

Poker review sites.

These are sites that offer information about the best places to hang out. There are a plethora of online poker sites on the Internet. It’s sometimes hard to decide which are the more reliable ones. That’s why review sites are useful. You get to learn about special features, special software, and maybe even some member comments. You may then decided for yourself whether you want to go ahead and join the poker site. In addition, review sites also list special bonuses for comparison. The higher the bonus, the lower the risk.

So where do you find all the above sites?

Well, a good place to start is to visit an online poker directory. Such a site is solely dedicated to listing poker related sites. You can find forums, review sites, informational sites, and more. So spend some time browsing an online poker directory, and enjoy your hobby even more!
