When you play online poker, do some certain seats let you win? +++?

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

I was playing earlier on Pokerstars, and played a .50/1.00 real money limit cash game. I won a lot of the hands because I picked up certain hands. And when I left and came back to the same seat, I continued to win. I left my seat and came back exactly three times and all those times, I left with some cash; made approximately $14 in about 1 hrs time. Then when I left the table because I was satisfied with my winnings, I watched as someone else took my seat and to my amazement, this person won with this seat too; about $5-$6 in about less then 10 hands… Is there sucha thing as a lucky seat when playing online poker? P.S., as I just finished writing this, the person won another pot worth over $4.00

Online Poker Signs

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008
Playing poker online is so fun that someone could easily find themselves playing at a poker table for hours on end, often without even knowing it. Online poker rules and strategies are similar to regular poker strategies. However, one of the biggest differences between the two types of poker games is that online poker is played at a much faster rate than regular poker. In addition, online poker does not allow a poker player to watch other opponents’ faces at the poker table. While many poker players might see this as a disadvantage, it can actually be an advantage since a poker player can easily watch their opponents’ actions and their reaction times to get a clue of what type of poker cards they might have.

In online poker, the card dealer is a computer, and as the dealer deals the cards, the action goes around the table as in a normal poker table; however, online poker sets a time limit for someone to make a move, otherwise their poker cards are folded automatically. This speeds up the poker game and forces the players at the poker tables to act quickly. When a person is watching their opponents, it can be somewhat easy to see how a player acts with the poker cards they are given. On some poker tables, there is an option for the player to make a play out of their turn, so that when the action comes around to their turn, the computer will automatically make the play. If a person is not paying attention to the poker game, it can be easy for them to miss a turn, or to miss an opponent’s actions.

When observing the other players at the poker table, it is important to take note of the players general movements. If they generally act fast, then it is important to watch for the poker hands in which they hesitate to make a play. Also, depending what type of cards they have in general, the hesitated move could mean that they have a really strong hand, or they have a weak hand, and do not know what to play. The same is true for a person who takes a long time to make a play, and then makes one hurried play. However, when this generally happens, the player usually has a weak hand, and pushed the auto check button.

When playing poker online, a person (beginners especially) should concentrate on one poker game at a time. Playing too many poker tables will distract the player from one of the tables, and they can potentially lose their turn, or a lot of money. If a person is concentrated on one poker game, they will be more in tune with the other poker payers, and can get better information on what kinds of plays the other poker players make.

When a person pays attention to too many poker games, they will often miss too many turns, and could be asked to leave the poker table. It is distracting and frustrating to have to wait for one poker player every time the action comes around to them. Playing online poker is different than regular poker, but it can be used to the poker player’s benefit, if they are willing to pay attention.

All About Online Poker Tournaments

Thursday, December 18th, 2008
A new and growing trend that has emerged in online Poker, is online poker tournaments. These are basically, tournaments that function like any other poker tournament, in that each player starts with a set amount of money and one final winner takes all after an elimination process.

Much Larger Pots

The benefits of an online poker tournament is that there is the distinct possibility of walking away with a vary large pile of cash. However; the flip side is that once you start in, there is no turning back, regardless of which way your luck with the cards is running.

The Tournament Moderator

An online tournament will always have a moderator who will be assigned the job of setting the ground rules and overseeing the games that are played during the course of the tournament. Typically, all the participants and the moderator will meet in a chartroom to discus all the particulars of the tournament before the games actually begin.

No Money Online Tournaments

If you aren’t quite up to playing with your hard earned money, most online poker sites now offer online poker tournaments that are played with points rather than money. It is advised that you give these types of tournaments a try before you head out into the big leagues with your real money.

A Balancing Act

It is important to remember that in a “winner takes all” online tournament, your odds of walking away with cash in your hand are far less than a standard game of poker. However; this higher risk of losing your money is counterbalanced by much larger pots when you do eventually win.

Play Smart

There are several types of online poker tournaments being offered online team, singles, international teams, etc. So, you would be well advised to study up on the subject before you jump into the fray. Also, just like any other game of chance, keep your head, stay cool and never, ever gamble with your rent money

I’m Looking for a website to play poker?

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Hey, I’m just looking for a website that lets you play poker with other people FREE online.
Here are the exact things I’m looking for:

1. NO DOWNLOAD.- Just a browser based game, Although I don’t really mind if it’s a downloaded game, As long as it fits ALL the criteria below.
2. Only play with FAKE Money or at least have that option although I prefer having a website dedicated to letting people play for completely fake money. Not play fake money games for practice to play real money games.
3. Completely free to join…Short but obvious.
4. A reasonable (or a hell of a lot) of people playing, just a site where there’s always more than one tournament or game going on.

If you do know of a website that fits ALL of the specifications above, please let me know and if you can, send m a link.

Oh, and I know some people are going to say PokerStars.com and I’m curious About that but is that a website really just dedicated to playing real money tournaments and just expect you to play a couple of fake money games? Or are there a lot of people who pretty much focus almost %100 of the time on fake money games/tournaments with other people?

How to Win at Online Poker

Monday, December 15th, 2008
Playing poker online is fast becoming a way for many to enjoy the sport of poker without all the hassles of traveling to another state or getting out in all kinds of weather to find a casino. Many states in the US do not even have one casino with any type of table games, thus many individuals cannot just drive down the street to play a hand. They must go on vacation to find a casino, thus the main reason online poker is so popular. However, do people real win at online casinos? The answer is yes, but you must know how to play in the virtual world in order to win.

Online poker is pretty much the same as in a casino. You can play in a virtual world today and even in a 3D world, making the game even more enjoyable. The 3D games are practically like being there only without all the noise that you found at casinos.

To win at online poker games, you still play just about, like you would in a casino. You should start out by playing your highest hand at the beginning of the poker game. You should also remember the old saying, “know when to hold ‘em and know when to fold”. If you think, you have a bad hand, fold. This way you will not lose as much, because no one wins every time. Online, you can watch the player’s faces and learn if they are bluffing, it is better to fold than lose a huge amount of money.

As you enter a poker room, observe before joining in. What are the stacks? If they are higher than you wish to lose, then leave. You can find a room where the stacks are not as high and you can enjoy winning.

If you are losing, lower your bet. You do not always have to bet the max. This will also help you win while minimizing your losses.

Even though, you are playing online, try to get to know the other players. Learn how they bet, their strategies, etc…, by watching the game prior to joining in if possible. You must still learn how to outsmart the other poker players in the room if you wish to win.

Not only must you learn about the other players, but you must also learn how to bet. Betting defensively is the best option. Learn how to bluff your opponents. This is a great way to win at any poker game. Your bluffs may not work on the hardcore players, but new poker players will fall into your trap.

Reading Your Opponents – Online Poker Tells

Sunday, December 14th, 2008
There are a couple of really good books out there dedicated to poker tells. Many other poker books at least take the time to breeze over the subject in a certain section or chapter for tells.

Of course, spotting tells in a live game is always easier than trying to read someone you can’t see (ie: online poker), but are there ways to read your online opponents?

Yes.

While playing live you can spot many of those live tells pretty easily. The shaky hands, the clenched jaw, the guy who practically leaps out of his seat; these are all pretty easy to spot. If you look deeper you may find more subtle differences in their body language and actions depending on their hand strength.

When playing online you are left without those really obvious tells, so in order to read your opponents, you must always be vigilant for the finer details.

For example: Let’s say an unknown player limps in UTG. You call from the button. Unsure of what this player may be holding, you decide it best to see the flop with your KJ and see how he plays it. The flop comes down K84 with 2 hearts. Your opponent quickly checks, and you bet about 2/3 the pot. He calls instantly.

The quick check followed by the insta-call is almost always a sign of someone on a draw. With that board, he’s not likely on a straight draw. What’s more likely is that he needs another heart to complete his flush. If the heart doesn’t fall on the turn, make him pay, at least 1/2 the pot to take his pot odds, and see what happens from there. If another heart does fall, it would be wise to check if he checks, as he’s likely looking for a check raise or at least hoping for a big bet on your part.

Another online tell is betting amounts, which when combined with your note keeping system, should play a major role in your online play. Many novice players tend to bet much heavier when they are bluffing and much smaller when they actually have a real hand (after all, they want you to call and pay them, they don’t want to scare you away). Other players will bet the pot on their draws and less than the pot when they have a real hand, much for the same reasoning. Other players will do the opposite, betting heavy with the real hands for maximum chip extraction while betting small on draws to give themselves the pot odds they need when players who aren’t aggressive enough just call instead of doing what a winning poker player does: RAISE!

A check-raise is another online tell of a very strong hand.

Another indicator of a players hand strength often lies in the amount of time they take to act. Quick checkers can usually be easily bet off of a pot. Often you’ll see a player flop trips and then think for a fairly long time before checking. Then you’ll see them bet out the turn. The reason for the long pause before the check on the flop was that this player was taking the time to consider the board texture, whether or not to bet, his own kicker, keeping other players in the hand, trapping, bet amounts, etc. If this player had missed the flop, he would have noticed that quickly and made a quick and easy check.

Now remember when practicing exploiting tells, that these tips are guidelines. Some players are tricky and will give off “false tells.” Other will consider what they want to see on the flop and how they will react to it ahead of time, giving them different reaction times. Other players are very good about mixing up their bet amounts online so as to avoiding being read.

What you want to look for are patterns of certain types of behaviors in players. The list of tells above are just a few of the most common ones, but if you keep a close eye on every play, even after you’ve folded, you begin to pick up on the little nuances of players and begin even spotting many tells that you hadn’t heard of or noticed before.

When you spot a player who excersizes these types of habits at the tables, exploit them for what they’re worth. Save your chips when your beat, and take theirs when you know that you can.

There is a guy who destroys me at poker every week – Help?

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

I’ve been playing poker 4 years now and i would say i’m quite good. I play in my local casino every week and normally do very well – There is one guy who also plays every week who seems to do very well as well. It always seems like he always wins and i come 2nd or we have a huge pot mid tourney which he normally wins.

He went on holiday for 3 weeks so missed 3 weeks of poker – every week he was on holiday i won the tournament, then he comes back and beats me again.

I don’t no how i can get the edge on him – he is very very aggressive preflop, on the flop, turn and river. He raises alot preflop – If i ever raise preflop he’ll call with pretty much anything and bet out on the flop.

I’ve tried trapping with big hands but he seems to check on the river when i have a big hand.

I just want to no if there is anything i can do to get the edge over him? – i think he may have a tell on me – how do you hide tells?
