do pro poker players make a lot of money outside of tournaments, a couple million a year at least without tournaments?

The typical pro makes the majority of their money from non-tournament play. Tournaments are probably just a supplement for most pros and a chance to get a single giant pay off if they win.

The best guys can make upwards of one million in a good year, not including tournament winnings. But the problem with being a professional poker player is that the game is prone to big swings. You could make 40K in a day and lose 60K the next. A lot of pros go bankrupt at some point or another in their career.

it depends on the player, some top players play exclusively tournament poker and others play almost exclusively cash games and skip most major tournaments…for the vast majority of players though, they are able to make a lot of money in cash games and business ventures, as well as in tournaments…i would say the very, very best can make about three or four million or so in cash games and outside of poker altogether, but that is a very elite group of people

Yes of course they do, playing in a ring game is the bread and butter of a pro player. Playing in tournaments can be a crap shoot, and one bad beat can send you home, And when the blinds get huge it can be a gamble to play. But in a cash game you can take your time, and skill becomes a bigger factor then in a tournament. And if you take some bad beats in a cash game you can always buy back in and by the end of the day you can get some of your loses back.

The real money from poker is in the side games. The average cash game pro makes more than the top tournament players. If you are interested in seeing videos of some online cash pros check out
